Her recent divorce and abrupt departure from La Jolla Spa MD caused quite the stir and speculation among San Diego gossip circles. But a couple years and a hit reality show later, Dianne York-Goldman is back in business, reclaiming her throne at Spa MD, which she relaunches this month, as well as filming the second season of Addicted to Beauty. She lets 944 in on the realities of being a reality series “bitch” and airing her dirty laundry to the public.

944: Now that the first season of Addicted to Beauty has aired, what are some reactions you are getting from people?
DIANNE YORK-GOLDMAN: I’ve been getting a lot of stares. Some people will stare, then ask about the show. And others will just stare at me for a really long time without saying a word and look annoyed. These are usually the people who believe that I really am exactly the way the show makes me out to be.

944: So, Addicted to Beauty is a scripted reality show?
DYG: Yes and no. The reality series that has a “bitch” in it usually gets the higher ratings, and I knew that going into it. But, there were some very real feelings involved as well. We (the Changes staff/cast of Addicted to Beauty) ended up really hurting one another’s feelings, and we knew we were doing it. Then someone would feed off that energy and the emotions would escalate. So, yes, sometimes the line between acting and reality was blurred.

944: With all the animosity between the staff during season one, how will you all continue to work together for season two?
DYG: You know … everyone in the show wanted to quit at some point. It was a strain on our relationships, but I wanted to keep us all together. So, we had to pull together and remember that it’s television.

944: How was your life affected during the filming of season one?
DYG: I felt like a fish out of water, because we were not here (Spa MD) like we had originally intended. Instead, we had to move to a new location, due to the timing of my divorce. I brought my entire staff from Spa MD with me to Changes, and we not only had to adjust to a new location, but we also had to get used to working with Dr. Lee’s staff. It took a toll on everyone. We worked long hours and all of our external relationships were affected.

944: Was the stress of your divorce intensified due to the filming of the show?
DYG: Yes, and mainly because I couldn’t be there at the spa for so much of the filming, because I was stuck in court. The producers even wanted to bring the cameras into the courtroom because I was there so much. However, the judge would not allow it.

944: So you would have been fine with the cameras coming into the courtroom and capturing the details of your divorce for the show?
DYG: Yes. I had nothing to hide, and I was struggling with not being able to be in two places at once.

944: Do you ever worry that the negative light the show portrays you in will affect your long-term career and business at Spa MD?
DYG: No, I’m not worried, because those who know me, know how I truly am. Plus, the show is great for business. Dr. Lee is booked for months, and we’ve had several appearances in publications and other media outlets.

944: Now that season one has aired, are you concerned with what people are saying about you?
DYG: My mother always told me that when people stop talking about you, then it becomes a problem. I have thick skin, and I try not to let what people say affect me. Sometimes it can hurt, though. People have said some really harsh things on the blog site.

944: Do you think all the negative aspects of plastic surgery, like the botched procedures or unhappy customers, should be conveyed in Addicted to Beauty as well?
DYG: Yes, I do. Not every plastic surgery procedure gives the patient the results they wanted, and that reality should be part of a “reality show” like this one.
